n2s were thrilled to host Shadow Environment Minister Daniel Zeichner MP at the sister company’s Bioscope site in Cambridge on Friday, 5 April 2024.
A life-long environmentalist, Daniel Zeichner – Shadow Minister for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs – engaged in discussions with the leadership team and explored UK’s critical minerals strategy, circular economy and the role of innovation in achieving sustainable future. During his visit, Daniel was hosted by Jeff Borrman, CEO at Bioscope and James Bates, CEO at n2s, Bioscope’s founding company.
With the world’s generation of e-waste rising five times faster than the documented capacity to recycle it, investment into research and innovation is at a critical point. According to the recent Global E-waste Monitor 2024 from UN (March 2024), a record 62 million tonnes of e-waste was produced in 2022 alone, an alarming increase of 82% from 2010*.
n2s CEO James Bates:
“Achieving circular economy in IT is at the core of our mission at n2s, and these sustainable material recovery methods are a true accelerator, as well as an opportunity to re-establish the UK as a source of materials and relocate the refinery process back onshore.”
Bioscope was founded in January 2022 from the success of a research programme n2s initiated in 2016 while on a mission to redefine the lifecycle of technology and achieve circularity in IT and telecoms sectors.
Bioscope’s CEO Jeff Borrman, commented:
“We’re committed to accelerating UK’s capabilities in the recovery of critical metals, and focus on scaling our UK operations over the next 12 months, having successfully passed our laboratory research stage in December 2023.”
